I've been using this coffeemaker for almost a year. It makes a great cup of coffee, which tastes as good (to me) as the ones from a k-cup. My brother is a long-time k-cup user and even he agrees. And it's so much more economical. I grind my own beans, put 3 tablespoons of ground coffee in the filter basket, and add water to the line. It's hard to go wrong. The coffee is really hot, which is a big plus for me. One thing I do daily is to turn the unit upside-down and empty any water that's sitting in it, from condensed steam or the little bit that stays in the bottom of the reservoir. I really believe it helps to do this, and to leave the lid open overnight and let the unit dry out. No operating problems. I've never de-scaled it; I just use filtered water.
